A judge in Philadelphia has blocked the expansion of the Port of Wilmington claiming insufficient permits.
The decision comes after Delaware obtained permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the construction of a new container terminal in Edgemoor. Pennsylvania and New Jersey sued as a result.
It is just the latest challenge in an ongoing rivalry over shipment profits from the Delaware River involving the Ports of Wilmington and Philidelphia.
Delaware Governor, John Carney has expressed frustration over the ruling, highlighting the port expansion’s potential for job creation.
