Senator John Thune: Farm Bill will likely get done during the next session

South Dakota Senator John Thune takes over the Senate Republican leadership position when the new Congress convenes in January but he is still hoping to finish some business before the current session ends.

One of the items on his list is a new Farm Bill, but he is doubtful it will get done this session.

“I think you know, the more probably likely scenario at this point is that it gets done in the next congress, honestly, but I would not rule out the possibility if there’s a way that we could get a bill. We need to mark a bill up in Committee. We haven’t even done that in the Senate yet. And under the Democrat majority, we haven’t really, I mean the the Democrat Chairman of the Ag Committee has yet to put a bill in front of the committee to vote on, so I hope we can do that.”

Thune is in his fourth Senate term and has promised to work closely with President-Elect Trump, despite the differences the two have had over the years.
