A new strain of PED virus has been identified by researchers at Iowa State University.
The Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab has detected five strains of the virus that did not match previously sequenced cases.
Four of the five cases identified with the unique strain were from Illinois, while the fifth came from Missouri.
Scientists say it’s unlikely the strain mutated from the originally identified U.S. sequence.
The lab is still working to find out more about the new strain’s origins.
