OMAHA, Neb. (RFD-TV) Amy Wilson is “Western Sports Roundup’s” newest star. She grew up on a farm and ranch near Colby, Kansas, and in 2008 served as the First Lady of Professional Rodeo with the title, Miss Rodeo America. The western lifestyle is Amy’s passion, and she expresses it during her daily reports. Along with her recent success on “Western Sports Roundup,” Amy continues to serve as a role model for young aspiring rodeo queens sharing her motto, “It’s Your Time to Shine!”

Amy took the time to visit with RURAL RADIO and describe her experience thus far.

Q: What do you like most about hosting on RURAL RADIO?

A: I like knowing that Rural Radio listeners have the chance to hear something that doesn’t exist anywhere else. There’s no show like “Western Sports Roundup” It is always loaded with all-star guests and great information relating to western sports.

Q: How did you get your start in Radio/TV?

A: I started cutting commercials for KXXX/KQLS when I was in college. They actually still play one of them, and joke that it’s the longest running commercial ever. I attained my B.A. degree in media, and have always focused more on television. Combining the two as host of the “Western Sports Roundup” segment of “Rural Evening News” and co-host of “Western Sports Roundup” on Rural Radio has been fun!

Q: What was your favorite episode or guest of the first radio season?

A: I started co-hosting “WSR” with Flint Rasmussen, and every show was entertaining! We’ve now made the transition to Steve and he brings a whole different perspective. I think it’s great to see how Flint and Steve each bring different responses out of our guests, which has let everyone get to know them personally. I honestly can’t pick a favorite guest. We’ve had Clay Walker to Trevor Brazile and everyone in between! They’re all my favorites!

Q: What can listeners look forward to in the next year on your show?

A: With the announcement of RFD-TV’s THE AMERICAN, listeners can be confident that we are the place to get valuable information, daily recaps, and interviews with the winners. We will also continue to bring the best of the best in all of western sports, as we look forward to implementing more opportunities for our listeners to interact with us and our guests.

We had to ask some fun questions too.

Q: Favorite food?

A: Sushi, Steak, and fruit.

Q:Favorite vacation spot?

A: Surfing in Hawaii.

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?

A: Shoes…I don’t know if I can count how many pair of boots and heels I have.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about summer?

A: More rodeos to go to, warm weather, seeing lightning bugs at night…I love summer!

Q: I can’t help but turn up the radio when ______ comes on.

A: It changes daily! Haha!
