Jatzlau wins first round at American Semi-Finals

Jackie Jatzlau

It’s been 10 years since Jackie (Dube) Jatzlau, 34, of Giddings, Texas, raced around rodeo’s cloverleaf pattern on a national stage. But during the first round of The American Semi-Finals Rodeo in Fort Worth, Texas, she took one step closer to making an appearance March 1 at the world’s richest one-day rodeo – RFD-TV’s The American, presented by Polaris Ranger.

The horse trainer and two-time NFR qualifier from Giddings, Texas, posted a time of 13.863 seconds, which was fastest out of 116 barrel racers in Fort Worth trying to advance to the clean-slate top-30 short round. Jatzlau, who earned $7,911 for the first-round win, stands to earn nearly $50,000 total in Fort Worth on Sunday if she also wins the final round. She is competing on Imanonstop Fame, a 4-year-old colt she raised out of her former champion mare, Imanonstop Princess.

The final 30 will compete during performances at Cowtown Coliseum on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. From those 30 runs, the 10 fastest will earn the coveted berths into the $2 million rodeo in AT&T Stadium.

Unlike sanctioning rodeo associations, RFD-TV’s The American has no age, gender, or earnings limitations. The top 30 racers this weekend include two girls 9 and 10 years old, respectively, two male racers and five former NFR barrel racers who are (in addition to Jatzlau): Jane Melby, Taylor Jacob, Tana Poppino, Kassie Mowry and Shelly Anzick. Jacob holds the arena record at the NFR, while Anzick hopes to return to the final-four competition at AT&T Stadium, where last year she suffered a penalty in her run for shares of $1.1 million.
