Newly Re-launched News Program Chosen in the “Best Show or Series News” Category
(NASHVILLE, TN — AUGUST 06, 2015) RFD-TV News announced today that its exclusive program, MARKET DAY REPORT, has been named a finalist for the coveted 2015 Cablefax Program Awards in the “Best Show or Series,” news category. Created exclusively for RFD-TV and RURAL RADIO SiriusXM channel 147, MARKET DAY REPORT is the first and only national television and radio networks serving rural America and Canada and are available to more than 75 million households nationally. Hosted annually, the Cablefax Program Awards recognize the cable industry's best programming content. The Program Award finalists were chosen amongst a record-breaking amount of entries, creating fierce competition within each category.
“I am thrilled that our team has been honored with this nomination. We started with a vision and blank slate. It says so much about RFD-TV that in just a scant few months we've been able to achieve so much, “ stated Gary Kanofsky, Chief Content Officer, and Executive Vice President of News. “Building a brand new studio, branding, infrastructure and team in six months was a tremendous and unprecedented accomplishment. But using those tools for maximum effect editorially and achieving recognition for that is even better. We're honored to be among such well-recognized company. Our goal was just that: To be every bit as strong in storytelling and production as our competitors and to mount a bona fide world-class product.“
MARKET DAY REPORT is the only daily, five-hour telecast devoted to agribusiness. As RFD-TV’s most watched weekly live news program, MARKET DAY REPORT ranks #1 for farmers and ranchers and delivers “live” continuous coverage focused on the latest news, trade analysis, national weather, and in-depth commodity market updates.
As the leading cable network in the U.S. focused on serving the needs of rural America, RFD-TV reaches consumers who have significant spending power. MARKET DAY REPORT is the top-rated weekly program for RFD-TV and RURAL RADIO on SiriusXM Channel 147 and continues to drive viewer growth. Ratings for the program have seen an increase of 32% since the network re-launch, is up 143% since the same time last year and is the fastest-growing time slot this year, delivering just over 22% more P18+ than in 2014. With 600,000 farmers and ranchers tuning in during primetime and 1.1 million weekly viewers, the all-new MARKET DAY REPORT remains rural America’s most important network.
“The scope, quality and remarkable talent represented in this year’s awards program is a true testament to the value and contribution that each of the finalists continues to bring to the viewers,” stated Patrick Gottsch, Founder & President of Rural Media Group. “The competition was fierce and to place as a finalist is a major accomplishment.”
In late 2014, RFD-TV hired Gary Kanofsky (veteran of NBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, CBS, and Al Jazeera America) to serve as the new chief content officer and EVP of news. With Kanofsky’s leadership and vision, MARKET DAY REPORT experienced a complete overhaul, now delivering a brand new look. The makeover included building new state-of-the-art studios, complete with new set design, upgraded lighting, new HD and broadcast equipment for the production center, as well as a mobile remote production and satellite systems. In addition to the physical makeover, RFD-TV added new graphic packages, hired new anchors, and revamped news content to include real-time data feeds of commodities, equities, indexes, and ETF’s so that viewers now see financial data on the move. New dedicated news bureaus in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, round out the programming by delivering up to the minute news content for viewers.
Real time stock quotes, industry updates, and cutting edge product information provide daily economic impact to the working rural American. During the proposed mergers between Comcast / Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-Verse with DirecTV, RFD-TV was on the verge of being canceled in many markets. RFD-TV viewers filed over 57,000 public comments with the FCC in support of rural programming and content on MARKET DAY REPORT, which was far more than any other network and forced the FCC to reconsider the merger.
In recognition of this achievement, each finalist will receive an award during the Cablefax Program Awards breakfast at the Yale Club in New York City on October 1, 2015. Program Award winners will also be announced to help celebrate the industry’s top operators.
MARKET DAY REPORT airs weekdays from 9 AM to 2 PM ET on RFD-TV and RURAL RADIO SiriusXM channel 147.
