Farmer Fined $20 Million, Sues EPA

September 1, 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFDTV) - A Wyoming farmer is suing the EPA after amassing almost $20 million dollars in fines from the Environmental Protection Agency. The ordeal began in 2012 when Andy Johnson wanted to install a stock pond on his 8-acre farm. Johnson received a permit from the state of Wyoming and even had the state engineer survey his land three times.

"They signed off on it and said we were in good standing with the state of Wyoming," said Johnson. "Our pond was exactly exercised as permitted. So we're thinking life is good, everything is OK and then all of a sudden we received an administrative order from the EPA."

The order claims Johnson may or may not be in violation of the Clean Water Act and ordered Johnson to remove the pond or face a fine of $37,500 per day. Those fines have now climbed to almost $20 million dollars.
