The Indiana State FFA Convention starts this week at Purdue University, and we had the honor of talking with the Southern Region Vice President, Emily Dougherty, about what members can expect when attending this event.
The convention will house different events that include a community service day, six general sessions, luncheons, and a fun night which allows members from across the state to get better acquainted with each other. There will be over 3,000 members attending this year’s convention.
Among the 3,000 are 407 members that will be receiving the Hoosier FFA Degree. This degree is earned by members who have completed community service projects as well as their Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). This degree is an honor, and the Indiana FFA Organization is proud to have such a large number of recipients.
We asked Emily what she hopes that attending members take away from their experience at this year’s convention. She mentioned that the team of state officers have been working hard this year planning the convention and hope that the members are inspired to “transform purpose to action.” She explained that they hope members take action in their communities and local chapters and strive to become the future leaders that the agriculture industry needs. She is taking action by attending Purdue University in the fall to pursue a degree in agricultural communications.
