Nashville, Tenn. (RFD-TV) American Farm Bureau’s Market Intelligence Director, John Newton, discusses the upcoming Farm Bill with RFD-TV’s Janet Adkison.

Newton explained that United States Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, has approved $8 billion in commodity support payments. This is following trends seen in the 2015-2016 crop year.

The Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) program, that guarantees payment based on average revenue for both price and yield is especially important to farmers.

Newton anticipates that American Farm Bureau will work with legislators during the writing process of the next Farm Bill, in hopes that key support programs will stay in place as a functional safety net for producers.
