Press Conference for PBR and RFD-TV's THE AMERICAN
January 18, 2018
The PBR and RFD-TV's The American held a press conference and reception yesterday evening at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. Speakers included the mayor of Arlington, TX, Jeff Williams, the PBR’s CEO Sean Gleason and rodeo announcer, Matt West, Rural Media Group and RFD-TV’s CMO, Billy Frey, star athlete Trevor Brazile, and country rocker and Army veteran, Ryan Weaver. Weaver is the voice of the PBR's "Celebrate America" campaign, which honors American heroes, including service members.
“Arlington is the city where champions are crowned,” said Mayor Jeff Williams. “[These two events] together create economic impact in Arlington and we’re happy to declare that Feb 19th, 2018 will be "The Week of the Cowboy.”
“The PBR celebrates America at every stop along the way,” said Sean Gleason, CEO of the PBR. Our athletes a year and a half ago, of their own accord, signed a pledge to stand for the national anthem at every event, regardless of their nationality or the country in which they are competing. That wasn’t a political statement. It wasn’t something we were doing to try to gain awareness or news coverage. We’ve been celebrating this country and our heroes for 25 years. The national anthem has top billing every night in our opening ceremony for the past 25 years. This is something that we believe at our core.”
“When the vision was set forth back in the day, AT&T Stadium was the place we wanted to be. In the past five years, we’ve had two goals. To changes lives and make dreams come true,” said Billy Frey, CMO of RFD-TV. “We’ve given away 12 million dollars. We’ve created the million-dollar cowboy. Rural Media Group has grown tremendously in the past five years. RFD-TV is an independent network that has grown to 52 million homes. We’ve created a new network in Rural Radio Channel 147 on SiriusXM radio. Then in July of 2017, we launched The Cowboy Channel, a new cable network available in 30 million homes and devoted to all things devoted to rodeo and the cowboy.”
The PBR’s Iron Cowboy returns to AT&T Stadium on February 24th, 2018 where the top bull riders in the world compete against the fiercest bulls on the planet. With a total purse of $250,000, this one-night event features the top 40 riders in the world tackling the bucking bulls, striving to make the 8-second buzzer.
On Sunday, February 25th, RFD-TV’s The American will return to round out one of the biggest Western sports weekends of the year. As the largest single-day cash prize rodeo in history, The American will offer a total purse of $2 million with $1 million divided among any qualifiers that win their respective events.
With the best Western sports athletes in the world converging on AT&T Stadium to compete, February 24-25 will showcase some of the most talented, toughest and grittiest cowboys and cowgirls Texas has ever seen.
2018 will be the ninth consecutive year that AT&T Stadium will host PBR Iron Cowboy event. It will be the fifth year for RFD-TV’s The American.
The PBR (Professional Bull Riders) is celebrating 25 years of competition in 2018. The PBR has rapidly transformed one of the fastest-growing sports in America into a worldwide phenomenon. In just two decades, the dream of 20 bull riders has grown into a global sports sensation that has awarded more than $140 million in prize money.
