NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other top U.S. officials traveled to Mexico Friday for talks with the country's President and the President-Elect. It is the first high-level meeting between the Trump Administration and the incoming leader amid heightened tensions between the two neighbors.

Pompeo's delegation included Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Senior Adviser Jared Kushner. The talks covered a broad range of issues, including NAFTA negotiations, the opioid crisis, border security and immigration and trade negotiations.

Informa reports, the U.S. acquired a $63 billion trade deficit in goods with Mexico last year. Under the deal, Mexico's exports surged 700% to $294 billion and Canada's shipments doubled to $278 billion. Next month, U.S., Mexico and Canada officials will hold a dinner to kick of the upcoming round of NAFTA talks.
