Traditional country artist C.J. Garton and his 13-year-old son Clinton Bruce Garton III has completed a 646-mile journey from Nashville to Depew, Oklahoma in what they dubbed “Riding for Real Country: The Ride Back Home.”
According to their indiegogo page about the ride it was about “two guys, two horses, One guitar, One country boy. One city boy, facing the elements on horseback across six states, 646 miles, Riding for real country music awareness, documenting and recording the trip on video from Nashville, Tennessee to Depew, Oklahoma.”
The journey, which was chronicled on C.J.'s Facebook page, began on July 23rd on their horses Pancho and Lefty. Along the ride, which ended at their family farm, they brought real country awareness to communities. They even played some impromptu gigs.
“Thanks to everyone that we’ve met along the way,” C.J. said on Facebook on Aug. 12. “It continues to be an experience that we will never forget! Hope everyone had a great day!”
The ride concluded on Aug. 22 at their family farm in Depew. The pair rode more than 20 miles a day on average, including more than 30 some days of the trip.
At the conclusion, C.J. and Clinton thanked everyone for the support along the way and auctioned off the banners that were draped on the horses for the ride.
