Whirlpool Corporation has recalled its glass cooktop surfaces after reports that the appliance can turn on by itself, posing fire and burn risks.

To remedy this issue, consumers should immediately contact Whirlpool to arrange for a free installation of a replacement cooktop. When not in use, turn the unit off at the circuit breaker. Do not leave flammable materials or empty cookware on or near the cooktop.

Overall, Whirlpool has sold almost 30,000 units across North America and the item recalled on Aug. 28. Whirlpool received 133 total incident reports involving the cooktops and two people have been injured with minor burns.

The Whirlpool cooktop is sold at Lowe’s, The Home Depot and Best Buy for between $1,150 and $2,500.
