Fall Into Seasonal Produce
It’s a new season, which means new seasonal foods popping up in the farm stands and grocery stores around the country. Celebrate the fall flavors with some produce at their peak this time of year.
Did you know there are 100 commercial varieties grown in the US; and many more that grow in the wild! Apples are great dipped in caramel or eaten by hand as is but have you ever used them as part of your chicken stuffing? Beets are an awesome source of essential vitamins and minerals as well as being a naturally sweet vegetable. They can even be used as a source of granulated sugar. California Bountiful highlights a farm that has been processing sugar beets for generations.
Often found in fall dishes, mushrooms are known as the “meat” of the vegetable world due to their savory umami flavor. Although once commonly foraged, the mushrooms we eat are now commercially grown in controlled environments. FarmHer visited the Bunoa Foods mushroom farm to see how they end up on your plate.
