The Food And Drug Administration proposes new guidelines for conditional approval of animal drugs.
According to the Hagstrom Report, the draft guidelines are meant to help get medications that address serious diseases conditional approval. Until recently only new medications intended for minor use in major species were eligible.
The expansion could incentivize drug development and provide veterinarians with alternative treatment options.
