Improving Poultry Safety With Lasers and Yucca

U.S. poultry has new research that aims to improve food safety and poultry production.

The first study by Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University is using yucca plant extract on poultry products to reduce salmonella and other bacteria on chicken. The plant could be an all-natural way to improve food safety during processing.

The second study by Iowa State University is installing lasers in poultry barns to encourage more movement. Similar to lasers used to play with pets the devices provide enrichment for the birds and promote weight and muscle gain.
