Iowa fisherman catches record muskie in Minnesota

There is a new record for the biggest muskie caught in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources certified the catch-and-release of the 57.25 inch fish on Monday. It was caught by Corey Kitzmann of Davenport, Iowa on Aug. 6, 2019.

According a news release, Kitzmann was out on the water that day to make his mind off the news that one of his close friends had died at the age of 40.

“As the phone calls winded down I couldn’t help but think that one of my best friends, Brian Cronkleton, was looking down on me that day – Aug. 6, 2019, is a day that I’ll certainly never forget,” Kitzmann said.

After a couple hours without a bite, he reeled in the record-setter.

“When I set the hook, I knew immediately that I had a nice fish on," he said. "It wasn’t until the fish made its way to the side of the boat that I realized I had a true giant."
