In the first hunt of her life, it took 11-year-old Lilly Mickelson until dinner time to bag her first buck. And it just so happened to be a 12-point buck.

“It was my first deer and my first time going out hunting with me shooting. So, I was just nervous that I’d miss or something,” Lilly told Fox9 in Minnesota.

“I couldn’t have been any more proud of her and am still in shock,” her father Luke Mickelson added. "I encourage other dads - especially with daughters - to take them out hunting. It’s a great thing to share with the."

A Minnesota DNR spokesperson said he it was bigger than any buck he had ever shot and that getting young kids into hunting was crucial for controlling the state's deer population. Overall, 28,000 youth hunting licenses were given in Minnesota which is a sharp increase over the last five years.
