Known as “America’s Cowboy Philosopher”, Rogers was born in 1879 at Rogers Ranch in Oologah, Cherokee Territory in what is now Oklahoma. The son of a Cherokee senator, his birthday also marks the start of Native American Heritage Month.

Rogers began his show business career as a trick roper in “Texas Jack’s Wild West Circus in South Africa and moved on to Vaudeville, eventually leading to an engagement in the famous Ziegfeld Follies. He produced and acted in over 70 films, including “A Connecticut Yankee” and “State Fair”.

The Will Rogers Memorial Museum & Birthplace Ranch is offering free admission all day today to celebrate!
