At just 9-years-old, Alex Fischer is no stranger to helping her community. Every year, the family takes on a community service project helping the Charlotte Rescue Mission; a free 120-day Christian residential program for men and women who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and are predominantly homeless. WCNC reports what started with providing one box of food for a Thanksgiving meal, has turned in to providing 130 food boxes and 50 turkeys for the mission last year alone.

This year, Alex and her family set a goal to provide 50 boxes and 50 turkeys so each box could provide a complete dinner. This year they were able to buy 108 boxes and turkeys.

“I think everybody should have a Thanksgiving meal with their families,” Alex said. “A lot of people in Charlotte don’t have Thanksgiving meals.”
