Secretary Perdue discusses H-2A program during Mexico visit.

Posted: Updated:

Secretary Perdue's mission to Mexico isn't all about trade.

He's also working to open access to immigrant farm workers to offer American farmers a reliable workforce. According to Perdue, both Mexican and U.S. leaders want a modernized H-2A program. Under the program, Mexico would help pre-certify and train workers.

Lawmakers took steps to overhaul the H-2A program. The 489-page proposal revises wage rates and streamlines the application process, but does not make the program year-round.
