Farmer's note from Sheriff goes viral

Posted: Updated:

Long nights, early mornings and a busy harvest could see expensive equipment waiting in the field through the middle of the night, and there may be fear of a break-in or theft during those late evening hours.

But Illinois corn and soybean farmer, Doug Downs, found a pleasant surprise. He was gassing up the combine when he noticed a note on the door, from the sheriff's department.

The note, from Sargent David Trimmell said, "just checking on the equipment. Have a safe harvest." Downs posted the note on Facebook expressing his gratitude.

Sargent Trimmell tells Ag Web, to hear what it meant to the farmer to know someone is watching out for him "was just awesome." He says "if I can do that little bit for them, I'm more than happy to do so."
