The 2016 and 2018 world champion is back at it in 2019.
Tyler Waguespack won the steer wrestling second round with a 3.6-second run. The round win was the ninth of his illustrious career.
The first-place finish in round two bumped his NFR earnings to $43,000.
Waguespack was familiar with the steer coming into the night which helped secure the round win.
“I actually ran that steer in the Cinch Shootout in Fort Madison (Iowa) earlier this year, and I was fortunate enough to win it on him. So, I had a really good game plan and knew some particulars about him. I was 4.3 on him in the Cinch Shootout and came back and cleaned it up a lot with a 3.6 tonight, so it was awesome.”
The overall goal remains the same, win the world title, but a lot needs to happen before Waguespack can claim his third title.
“My goal going forward is to do the best I can on each steer I draw, and if I’m fortunate enough to get another gold buckle, that’d be outstanding. In the meantime, I’ve got eight more rounds to go and I’m going to try to do as well as I can on each animal I draw.”
Waguespack currently sits in second place in the world standings behind Ty Erickson, who has yet to finish in the money.
