After one of the driest December's in the country's history and wildfires that decimated its beef industry, Australia received more than a month's worth of rainfall across multiple regions Thursday.

"Relief is here for a number of firefighters working across NSW. Although this rain won’t extinguish all fires, it will certainly go a long way towards containment," the New South Wales Rural Fire Service tweeted

The rain helped contain 30 of the 85 bushfires that are still burning throughout the country.

Additionally, forecasters are calling for up to four more inches of rain across some regions.

Conservation groups have estimated up to 1 billion animals have died in the fires.
