The Short-Go in San Angelo provided plenty of excitement Friday night as seven champions were crowned.

Bareback Riding

Reigning world champion Clayton Biglow did not take long to make his mark in the 2020 season as he scored 173 points on two head to win the championship in San Angelo.

Biglow had 89 points to notch the top ride in the Short-Go to claim victory.

“San Angelo is just pretty good to me,” Biglow, the arena record holder, said. “I love it here.”

Leighton Barry and Richmond Champion tied for second with 171.5 points on two head.

The 41-year-old finished with an aggregate time of 12.4 seconds on three head.

“Man, turning 40 has been good to me,” Reeves said. “I got a really neat horse right there and I have another one too and the horses are so good that you can’t beat it.....I’ve never won this rodeo so it is great to win more things and have more fun.”

Thurston’s first ride was 90 points on Hampton Pro Rodeo’s Rising Tide so all he needed was an 83 to clinch the championship in the final Saddle Bronc ride of Friday night and he scored an 86 to bring his total to 176 points on two head. He finished 3.5 points ahead of second-place Allen Boore.

It was Thurston’s first career win in San Angelo.

“This is an awesome rodeo, I’ve come here before and come close, won the long round a few times but to get it done this year is great,” he said.

Boore finished with 172.5 points on two head and Rusty Wright, who won the National Western earlier this year, was third.

"“Winning this is really big and sets me up for the summer and gives me more confidence too since my goal is to make the NFR this year,” Sechrist told ProRodeo.com.

He finished with an aggregate time of 24.8 seconds on three head, .3 better than Caleb Smidt and Cooper Martin who tied for second in a crowded leaderboard.

“This is one of the biggest wins in my career,” Sechrist said. “It’s pretty close to being like the NFR because everyone enters here and all the top guys are here.”
