Coronavirus Underscores Rural Broadband Needs

The importance of proper internet connections is felt in many parts of rural communities: education, medical, and business. The importance is emphasized more as rural America begins to be affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus. According to RJ Karney of the American Farm Bureau, “Broadband is no longer a luxury it is a necessity for all rural Americans.”

There is currently a bill making its way back through Congress that will help in directing funds to improve broadband for these communities. The bill is called S.1822. Karney goes on to say, “We are very close to the finish line...we are waiting for the Senate to pass the bill again.”
