Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has issued an executive order that provides close to $5 million in emergency funding for the state’s food banks.
The money comes from the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families block grant. TANF supports Ohio’s hunger relief network.
“We are extremely grateful to Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted, Ohio Department of Job and Family
Services Director Kimberly Hall and Governor’s Office Faith Based and Community Initiatives Michele
Reynolds, Executive Director for this response to our plea for help as the lines at our emergency food
distributions lengthen,” the Ohio Association of Food Banks said in a release. “Ohio’s foodbanks recognize that just as millions of Ohio households are challenged to afford their basic needs during this crisis, so too is the State of Ohio challenged with an obligation to balance its budget amid revenue shortfalls and record unemployment expenditures. We are humbled by and so thankful for this strong display of leadership and commitment to struggling Ohioans.”
The food banks are supported by the Ohio Dairy Producers Association, American Dairy Association-Mideast, and the National Farmers Organization.
“We are pleased to share that Governor Mike DeWine signed an order to provide nearly $5 million in emergency funding to help Ohioans have food on their tables during these challenging times,” the American Dairy Association wrote on Facebook. “Milk is one of the most requested items for food banks, and this funding will allow the Ohio Association of Foodbanks to immediately procure nutritious milk and dairy products, as well as other food and essential items, for Ohio’s 12 Feeding America Foodbanks and its statewide hunger relief network.”
