Oregon FFA officers help animals displaced by wildfires

As fires burned throughout Oregon, the Oregon FFA officers stepped up as thousands of humans and animals were displaced.

“This was a call to action for us,” Oregon FFA State President Grace Adams said. “As more and more towns evacuated, more and more animals were in need of care, and we knew this was something we could do to make a difference.”

The group volunteered at the Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center, which was helping shelter animals. The officers unloaded and cared for animals as owners looked for other housing options. According to FFA.org, the team began work creating pens and getting animals settled on Sept. 8. Now, their primary focus is on giving the animals individual attention.

“We’ve done our best to let owners know their animals are being loved as if they were our own,” Oregon FFA State Treasurer Celilo Brun said. “There’s so much to be done [at the fairgrounds], but we make time to help the animals feel safe and nurtured because we know this is a scary time for them.”

The officers plan to continue volunteering with the displaced animals and have encouraged other FFA members to get involved as well.

The Oregon FFA state officer team also includes Jenna Wallace, Raimey Brown, Grace Adams, Celio Brun, Colby Fairbairn and Alivia Robbins.
