Sen. Booker introduces meatpacker and pesticide legislation that could have a big impact

Senator Cory Booker announced two pieces of legislation that would have a big impact on agriculture if passed.

The New Jersey Democrat says that the “Protecting America’s Meatpacking Workers” Act would tighten poultry line speeds. It would increase rulemaking from the Labor Department and ban poultry tournament systems.

His pesticides bill would ban organo-phosphates, neo-nics, and paraquat. It would also protect farmworkers from retaliation if they speak out against an employer.
