Oregon farmers are objecting to a bill that will force them to pay overtime. The legislation is currently in the hands of the governor, and she has said that she will not veto any item on her desk.
One dairy advocate says that if it becomes law, farms will have to cut employee hours because their margins are already thin.
The bill would phase in overtime pay starting with anything over 55 hours. By 2025, the threshold would be the standard 40 hours. The governor can either sign the bill, veto it, or do nothing-- which would make it automatically become law.
