A Canadian non-profit now wants to take four major meatpackers to task, accusing them of price-fixing.
The group is asking a court in Quebec to accept a class action lawsuit against Cargill, JBS, National Beef and Tyson. The suit accuses the processors of conspiring to fix, maintain and control beef prices in Canada, and it is adding to high prices caused by inflation. The group is suing on behalf of consumers.
So far, only Cargill has responded, calling the suit “without merit.”
