The International Longshoremen’s Association is preparing for a possible strike

Time is running out for labor talks that could have a big impact on ag shipping.

The International Longshoremen’s Association is preparing for a possible strike. It would affect East and Gulf Coast ports, and it would be the first strike by the group in more than 45 years. The ILA warned several issues are at play, including automation.

The possibility of a strike concerns the U.S. Meat Export Federation. CEO Dan Halstrom says operations at those ports are critical for U.S. ag products.

The current contract expires on September 30th.
