Walnut production is down this year by nearly 20 percent but industry leaders say they knew this was a possibility.
“But it was anticipated that we would have a lower crop, so it was not a surprise by the industry. You know with this crop size, while it’s moderate, it’s still similar in size to the 2019 crop. Coupled with this due to strong summer demand, we expect that, you know, with the end of the season shipments that we’re going to the 100,000 tons in carrion so that combined is a very manageable volume for the industry and should provide both sellers and buyer confidence and stability in the market,” said Christine Lott.
This year’s walnut crop is expected to top 670,000 tons.
