Turning Up the Pressure: Where do farmers stand on emergency aid?

Friday is the deadline to avoid a government shutdown, and lawmakers remain at a standstill.

Emergency aid for farmers hangs in the balance, and farm groups are urging ag lawmakers not to back down.

Congress must pass a stopgap spending bill by Friday to keep the government running. Text of that bill is expected this week and it could include a one-year extension of the farm bill. However, there is a concern it might not include aid for farmers.

Ted McKinney with NASDA is calling on lawmakers to put politics aside, saying there needs to be a solution that provides economic aid for farmers and ranchers. Ag groups like the Farm Bureau are calling on lawmakers representing farm states to hold their ground.
