Grocery store prices could level off this year, and new forecasts from USDA show there is potential for even more relief down the road.
USDA projects grocery prices this year to end around one percent higher than last year. Economists say for 2025, prices could come in even lower.
“In 2025, prices for food at home or groceries are predicted to increase by 1.1%. Prices for food away from home or restaurants are predicted to increase by three-point 1% in 2025, and prices for all food. So both together are predicted to increase by 2% in 2025,” said Megan Sweitzer.
She says prices next year could even fall below this year’s levels. She points to 2016 and 2017 when prices fell both years in a row.
