The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has confirmed that a channel catfish caught by John Tyler Rutherford on July 21st is a new state record!
John was fishing at his father’s farm pond in Wayne County. He reeled in an astonishing 43.5-inch, 46.7-pound catfish by only using worms. This marks the sixth state record catch of the year so far.
The Director of the WVDNR even wanted to congratulate John for the catch!
“I want to congratulate John Tyler Rutherford on his outstanding catch. This remarkable achievement highlights the superior quality of West Virginia’s fisheries and the dedication of our team in maintaining and enhancing these aquatic resources,” Director Brett Million stated.
