Off the Record host Alexis Bloomer will broadcast from New York City during 10-week student internship

Omaha, Neb. (April 24,2014) — Alexis Bloomer, host of RURAL RADIO’s weekly show Off the Record, was recently awarded the Dan Rather Internship. Bloomer is a junior majoring in mass communications at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. The award was presented at the annual Sam Houston State University Mass Communications award ceremony.

Dan Rather, a 1953 alumnus of the SHSU, offers an exclusive internship in New York City. The 10-week internship is awarded to a communications and journalism student that meets the academic requirements and is selected through an application and interview process. Bloomer will work directly with Rather and producers of his weekly show, The Dan Rather Report.

“I’ve wanted this internship since I first came to Sam Houston. It will help me become better on-air as well, because I’m learning from a man that’s such an icon in the industry,” stated Bloomer.

In addition to her internship duties, Bloomer will continue to broadcast her RURAL RADIO show Off the Record from New York City. The half-hour show, which airs Saturdays at noon (ET) and Sundays at 6 p.m. (ET) on SiriusXM Radio channel 147 features guests from the rodeo arena.

“I’m really excited and humbled. I think this opportunity will benefit my future as a whole and make me a stronger broadcaster,” commented Bloomer, “Not to mention I get to do my show from New York. I think it will bring a different spin to the show. I’ll still be covering rural and western events but from a big city.”

Bloomer interviews athletes with unique backgrounds for Off the Record. The in-depth interviews delve into their lives outside the arena, inspirations, struggles and sometimes other business ventures. Recent guests have included rodeo athletes Stran Smith, RFD-TV’s THE AMERICAN Tie-Down Champion Tyson Durfey, Taylor Jacob, Cort Scheer and Richmond Champion.
