Secretary Vilsack reacts to Senate passing infrastructure bill

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says that the passage of the Senate infrastructure bill is a win for rural America.

The Secretary stated that farmers are very concerned about transportation right now and staying competitive in exports.

He went on to state what he likes about the package: “The notion of access to high-speed internet and broadband access with proper speeds in all of rural America. Very significant for farmers and ranchers to have access to realtime information on the markets. They’re as concerned as anybody should be on telemedicine, and distance learning opportunities for their families, and the opportunity for small businesses to expand market opportunities with access to that important 21st century infrastructure.”

The Senate Appropriations bill will come with a $3.5 trillion dollar price tag, at least.

The President’s plan to pay for it has caused consternation among farm country for months. Sec. Vilsack promises to protect rural Americans who want to pass down the family farm.

He also addressed long awaited COVID relief and other issues facing farm country.
