Is China’s purchase of U.S. corn because of the price breaks?

Many questions are coming into play as China keeps buying U.S. corn.

An ag economist questions whether last week’s large purchase was just a one-off sale or if it will be recurring. He tells Brownfield Ag News that he is seeing some forecasts that show China purchasing 250 million more bushels of U.S. corn, but to do that, we have to see sales in the next couple of weeks and data is not signaling that.

He says that China could have just been taking advantage of their recent breaks in corn prices, coming off of USDA’s Prospective Planting report.
