Oregon ranchers concerned John Day Fossil Beds National Monument will limit grazing

Oregon ranchers fear a national monument will limit grazing.

Two Senators introduced a bill this month to create the “John Day Fossil Beds National Monument” in the Painted Hills. Conservation groups want it, but ranchers are concerned about grazing, even though the sponsors say their bill allows it.

They say that the monument will boost tourism, increase wildlife, and block mining.
