Sen Grassley: Ukrainian war could cause humanitarian crisis

The ongoing war in Ukraine could cause a humanitarian crisis.

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley was asked about it on his weekly call with ag reporters. He said there will undoubtedly be an overall impact on global agriculture, and he fears there might not be enough food.

“We’ve gone up well above 200 million people that are going to have life-threatening situations of malnourishment. Normally, that would be a little over 100 million people year to year, but it’s way about 200 million right now,” Grassley states. “They’re threatened, and a lot of that’s because of what can’t be shipped out of there.”

The Iowa Senator said that they are doing everything possible;e to get Black Sea ports opened back up. In the meantime, Ukraine is using ports in Romania and Lithuania.
