The reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting deaths of 13 horses, including two pregnant horses, has been upped to $5,000 by the Humane Society of the United States.

Of the 13 horses killed, five belonged to residents in the area.

A spokesperson of the local sheriff’s office said the dead horses were being examined by veterinarians on Thursday.

President of Dumas Animal Rescue Tonya Conn said, “seeing them being gunned down is horrific. These horses were scattered in various places distances from each other so they had been shot, and they’d scattered then hunted and shot down.”

“It takes a truly heinous person to mercilessly shoot more than a dozen horses and leave them for dead,” said Kitty Block, president, and CEO of the Humane Society of the United State. “We hope this reward ($5,000) will encourage anyone with information about this terrible crime to come forward.”
