New program to help landowners recover from wildfires

A new program will help western landowners recover from wildfires.

Oregon State University’s Extension Fire Program usually educates landowners on fire prevention, but they are shifting their focus to help people navigate the post-fire process, so they do not miss out on any of the resources as they try to rebuild.

OSU’s Fire Program Manager, Carrie Berger states, “We’ve partnered with the NRCS to develop an ‘after the fire checklist’ so that landowners have a framework for moving from one part to the other on their landscape of what they need to look for, and then to document that information and to provide that to agencies who can then in turn provide funding.”

She says that communities and landowners will get through the devastation and be more resilient.
