One of rural America’s sweethearts says that she does not want a statue of herself in her home state.
In a statement issued today, Dolly Parton thanked Tennessee lawmakers for the consideration. She said that it is humbling, but she also said that given everything going on in the world right now, putting her on a pedestal is not the right thing to do.
She went on to say, “Perhaps after I’m gone if you still feel I deserve it, then I’m certain I will stand proud in our great State Capitol as a grateful Tennessean. In the meantime, I’ll continue to try to do good work to make this great state proud.”
