Supreme Court Will Hear Prop-12 Challenge

The Supreme Court has decided it will take up a challenge to California’s controversial Prop-12.

The voter-approved law is currently on hold, while a lower court requires the state ag department to publish final rules that are long overdue.

The law applies strict animal housing rules to all pork sold within California, regardless of where it is produced. Agriculture groups, including the National Pork Producers Council and American Farm Bureau, filed a petition, saying it will put farmers out of business. Lower courts have dismissed the petition.
