Negotiations on the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement continue after ‘working group’ meetings last week. The two sides are still trying to alleviate the Democrat’s concerns on the measure.
According to Politico, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi offered encouraging words after the Thursday sit down, saying negotiations are close to wrapping up, but when asked if details could be ironed out by Thanksgiving, House Ways & Means Chairman Richard Neal said, “there’s still a ways to go.”
House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy says the Democrats have already gotten what they want.
“The requirements the Democrats have asked for, have now been met. Those milestones of the steel tariffs. The idea that Mexico would even have a vote in their own senate to change their labor laws, proves there’s an opportunity now to move forward.”
McCarthy says if Pelosi would call the bill up, it would pass. We’ll hear more from him in an interview tomorrow morning on Market Day Report.
