MANHATTAN, Kan. (RFD News) — Diesel prices remain near record levels as farmers continue harvest across the country.
Kansas State University Farm Management Specialist Gregg Ibendahl said farmers will likely continue dealing with high diesel prices into next planting season.
“When it comes to diesel fuel, there’s not really any good way to avoid that because you really can’t store diesel fuel too long on a farm. Maybe six months in advance might be the best you can do. You know, a lot of farmers probably are limited amount of storage capacity as well here. Farmers are going to have to plan probably for six-dollar diesel fuel for this ’27 spring planting season. I just don’t see a way around that.”
Ibendahl said diesel prices of $6 to $7 per gallon will likely remain a reality for the next year or two, despite U.S. refineries running near full capacity.
Diesel prices were trending slightly lower, with AAA reporting a national average of $6.38 per gallon, down from $6.41 the previous day. A year ago, diesel averaged $3.70 per gallon.
