Nebraska farmer paddles miles down the Missouri River in a unique “boat”

Nebraska man, Duane Hansen celebrated his 60th birthday on the river, but not in a usual paddle boat.

He paddled 38 miles down the Missouri River in a hollowed-out, 846-pound pumpkin, hoping to set a Guinness World Record. The pumpkin had “SS Berta” written on the back and even included a cup holder carved, according to CNN.

According to the Guinness World Records, the previous record for the longest journey in a pumpkin boat was 25 miles, set in 2018. They have received Hansen’s application and are waiting to review it.

Hansen says he loves growing large pumpkins, gourds, and vegetables.
