The cowboy poet, Don Edwards saw a 60-year career with a legacy that lasted in not only pop culture but also the western genre.

Edwards was born in New Jersey. He would move to Texas at the age of sixteen to work in the oil fields. He would see his “professional debut” at Six Flags Over Texas in 1961.
Five years later he would move to Nashville.

He released his first album, Happy Cowboy, in 1980. He would release 16 more after that. Two albums in his discography really stood out: Guitars & Saddle Songs and Songs of the Cowboy. They are included in the Folklore Archives in the Library of Congress.

Sadly, on October 23, 2022, Edwards passed away at the age of 86.

Here are four of our favorite songs:

“The Cowboy’s Song”

“Prairie Lullaby”

“When the Work’s Done This Fall”

“Say Goodbye to Montana”

“Coyotes”
