Nash County, North Carolina (WYFF)-- There have been multiple reports in one North Carolina county stating that the hair from horses’ tails are being stolen.

According to a social media post by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, the reason for the theft is due to the price of horse hair.

However, this is not the first time that this has happened in the “Tar Heel State.”

Back in March, similar reports came in from Camden County. In a Facebook post, officials stated that “the suspect(s) cut off the hair of a horse’s tail, took it, and left. They also let another horse out on the property... their tails are the first line of defense against biting insects, ect. And it is estimated to take several years for the tail to grow back to original length.”

Horse hair can be reused for wigs or extensions.
